Shopaholics Anonymous!

How come some people have all the time in the world and others don't? This is an interesting question! There are some people who have time to get their work done, meet friends constantly, be in a new relationship, pursue multiple interests, make time for family, read often, sleep more than I do... Oh this list seems endless!! And then there are others like me, who wake up with just enough time in the mornings to get ready, gulp breakfast and beg my brother to drop me off at the bus stop, come back home do nothing and still crib that I have no time in life!
In a sense this means that it is now time for introspection. I often tell myself that I am not extremely fit physically and this means that I need to work out sometimes. My efforts to do that in the past have met with disastrous results! (details here: http://bhavanasm.blogspot.com/2009/05/bright-eyed-bushy-tailed.html) But in spite of this, I still tell myself constantly that I am going to start working out. Well, I am sure I will.. sooner or later! In fact, I have already made plans to go and buy running shoes as soon as possible! I saw this lovely pair of pink shoes in the Nike Store the other day! I am just waiting to buy it..

I have also been advised that I need to pursue hobbies.. wait! whatever gave this adviser the idea that I don't have hobbies! Of course I do! I have a wonderful hobby.. Shopping! Whatever gave people the idea that this is an easy hobby to pursue! It is so difficult when I have to go to Shopper's Stop or Bangalore Central only once in twenty days! Why! Just about 2 months ago when I went to Shopper's Stop, they had suddenly changed the entire layout of the place. I entered it and I was dumbstruck, I knew I was out of touch.

That's not all! Every so often, I go to one of these malls and realize that some of the things on display there are so beautiful.. But, then there comes my mom's voice booming in my head, "NO SHOPPING!!" How fair is it that, some people are allowed to do all the shopping they want, and I am not allowed to?
My brother for instance, is allowed to do all the shopping that he wants! Is it my problem that he wants to go only when he really really needs to? Which is like once in a year? I think there should be a rule which says allow people to go shopping whenever they want to!

I can so connect to Rebecca Bloomswood who is my favorite fictional character from the Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella. Poor girl is in great turmoil right now. The latest novel is set in the England which is caught in the midst of a recession. The girl has been given an ultimatum by her husband not to buy new till she has worn everything in her cupboard at-least three times! Poor poor Becky!

And they say life is simple!!

Life in 20's....

It has been a while since I blogged. If you think I am one of those show offs who claims to have limited time on her hands, you are right! How is it that people have to go to the parlor and spend hours there, they have time to call their boyfriends and spend hours on the phone, they have time to go shopping, but, yet they have no time for that ten minute call even once in a month. Well, I am sure there are multiple people out there asking the same question about me, but, I really don't have the time! (psst psst: my best friend has been asking me this question for the last 4 weeks!)
Well, I have gone from being a student for the last ten months back to being employed now! Feels good. The 12 AM on the 25th of every month henceforth, and for the last 3 months, I have been getting an SMS from HDFC bank which says my salary has been credited. And this has to be THE best thing that has come out of me going back to being employed. The work is good, hectic as it is. It's matter for another blog entry about how my month-end now begins on the 15th of the month!
This is my first job at a "big corporate" and for people from the previous generation, having a 5 day work weeks and the concept of work-from-home was unheard of, they can be quite confusing. My first 3 days of my working-from-home, my dad called me every hour to find out if I was still working or if I had actually told people at office that I am and I had taken off on a shopping trip with my sister! There have been a couple of Saturdays when I had to go to work for one reason or the other, my mom in all her innocence asks me, will they pay you for this. Being from the era of industrialization, she thinks my logging in from home also deserves extra pay! I wish!!
